Their body is thick and mild, with a spindle, usually 20-40 centimeters long and 150 to 400 grams. The head is large, the tip of the nose is shaped like a cone, the eye is large, the mouth is large, the upper jaw is long, each one has a fine tooth, the plough bone and the hip bone have teeth. The body is of a small scale, with a black or dark blue back, and an irregular dark blue worm pattern on both sides of the body. The abdomen is white and slightly yellow. The second dorsal fin and the anal fin, each of which has five small fins on each side. The dorsal fin is deep in the shape of the tail fin, and there are two bumps on each side of the base. The pectoral fins are light black, the anal fin is pale pink and the other fins are pale yellow.
